About BSEC

Botswana Society for Emergency Care (BSEC) is a recently revived society that is focused on the improvement of all aspects of Emergency care from pre-hospital to in-hospital care. We aim to reach global standard of Emergency care within Botswana thus setting a trend in Southern Africa.

The specialty of Emergency Medicine is still nascent in Botswana. BSEC intends to aid in the building of the specialty by conveying together various stakeholders for equation, scientific advancement, policy debates and fellowship.

 

The objects of the society are:

  • To promote and improve emergency care through teaching, research and education (e.g Continuing Professional Development and Continuing Medical Education credit courses).
  • To promote the advancement of Emergency Care in Botswana, encompassing prehospital care, emergency nursing, and emergency medicine.
  • To take an active role in enhancing the emergency care profession by participating in the registration and accreditation of emergency care professionals with local governing bodies such as the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC) and Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • To advocate for Emergency Care in Botswana.
  • To collaborate connections with regional Emergency Medicine Organizations such as the African Federation for Emergency Medicine and the Emergency Medicine Society of South Africa to advance education and research To liaise with regional Emergency Medicine Organisations (e.g. the African Federation Emergency Medicine and the Emergency Medicine Society of South Africa) for the purpose of education, research, and collaboration.
  • To take the lead in defining the scope of emergency care practice in Botswana and spearhead the development of emergency care standards, procedures, and guidelines in the field of emergency care.
  • To lobby on behalf of members of the Society for the promotion of and maintenance of the profession.

Who can become a member?

Any person involved in education, research and or patient care in the field of emergency medicine can become a full member of BSEC.

Full members pay membership fees, have voting rights and can stand for office
Joining Fee- P100 (once-off payment)

BSEC is a professional society that seeks to further a particular Emegency Care and the interests of individuals and organisations engaged in this profession.
We are a non-profit organization full registered under the council of Societies of Botswana.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE PHYSICIANS, EMERGENCY MEDICINE RESIDENTS, PARAMEDICS, EMERGENCY NURSES , FIRE, POLICE, BDF
